Start your career with an apprenticeship in our ports. With our more than 30 years of experience, we can offer you a well-founded vocational training. In addition, you can expect pay according to union negotiated tariff and experience our lively Apprentice Day. And one thing is certain: We don't have assembly line work! No matter where your field of deployment is, in maintenance, in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, in construction or in the office, in any of those fields you can contribute with your full potential.

Showcase your talent

During your apprenticeship, you get the opportunity to work and participate in various projects and departments. For several years now, our trainees have been successfully participating in the IHK (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) qualification program Energy Scouts. In doings so, you will learn to develop processes that reduce energy consumption by using resources more efficiently. Therefore, as an NPorts Apprentice, you can actively contribute to climate protection.

Duration of Apprenticeship: 3 years

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
The management's business trip has yet to be booked, the department management meeting has to be prepared, and the customers’ emails must be answered. As an all-rounder in the office, this is no problem for you: You organize office technical processes, work and organizational resources, as well as workplaces, and you know the company's organization and its functional relationships inside and out. During your training, you transfer through many departments, such as accounting, cost accounting, purchasing, human resources, secretarial services, port office or marketing/communication, to get a good overall view and specialize in one area of choice.

 

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school

 

What you should bring to the table:
You enjoy working with a PC and feel comfortable in the office. You are interested in commercial and business topics, you possess basic IT skills and on top of that, you have a good knowledge of mathematics and German. If that applies to you, then this apprenticeship is a great fit for you.

Future Opportunities After Your Education:
With the wide range of departments you transfer through, you can work in many corporate areas after your apprenticeship. For instance: in the HR department or in public relations. This will open many doors for you. If you are not yet fed up with learning, you may also be able study at an undergraduate or graduate school afterwards.

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
You will install, maintain and repair operating, production and process systems. This includes, for example, our cranes and locks with modern control equipment or modern building systems and automation technology. Each year of training has a focus in which you learn something new. For example, you will learn what direct and alternating current is. You will set up control cabinets yourself or draw circuit diagrams. You will programme control systems.

 

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general school. It would be great if you enjoy maths and physics. If you would like to start your apprenticeship in Norden, you should have a qualification from a vocational college.

 

What you should bring to the table:
Motivation, technical understanding, manual dexterity, interest in electrical circuits and exciting contexts as well as a steady hand.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
The opportunities for further training after your apprenticeship are diverse and range from electronics, mechatronics and electrical energy technology to electrical measurement and control technology. You can become a master craftsman or technician, or continue your training to become a technical specialist/business administrator. It is also possible to study electrical engineering or mechatronics.

Good general school leaving certificate.

 

What you should bring to the table:
You should be good at maths, German and physics. You should also enjoy organisational tasks and have technical skills.

More knowledge is always good. You can not only continue your education through courses or seminars, but also specialise in a specific area. You can become a master craftsman, technician or technical business administrator. It is also possible to study or become self-employed.

Have you always enjoyed technology lessons at your school and do you love it when sparks fly? Then a career as a metal technology specialist is just right for you. You will manufacture components and assemblies manually and mechanically. You will also make connections and plan and prepare assembly and disassembly processes. Your tasks will also include the maintenance and repair of operating equipment. You will also troubleshoot and rectify faults in systems, equipment and vehicles (motor vehicles and ships).

 

What degree do you need?
A degree from a general education school.

 

What you should bring to the table:
Logical thinking and an interest in technical topics, as well as manual dexterity and a precise, careful way of working are no foreign words for you. If you also have a keen interest in technology, this apprenticeship will suit you very well.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
After your apprenticeship, you have many options. You can start a further apprenticeship as an industrial technician. After completing your training, you can continue your education to become a (business) administrator, master craftsman or technician, for example. Then nothing stands in the way of self-employment.

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
As a property agent, you will learn about property, construction and tenancy law as well as tax law and the Real Estate Agent and Property Developer Ordinance. That sounds dry at first, but it's not at all. In this profession, you will have a lot to do with other people, whether on the phone or in person. You will also gain broad commercial knowledge, learn to observe market situations and recognise business relationships.

 

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school.

 

What you should bring to the table:
Do you enjoy working on a PC, but are you just as keen to work with people? Are you interested in commercial and property management contexts? Teamwork is just as important to you as initiative and independence? Then this job suits you.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
The property sector is booming and offers great career prospects. After your training, you can work in housing associations, property management companies, estate agents, banks, insurance companies and national companies.

 

This profession is for you if you:

  • have an interest in property management topics
  • have a knack for maths and economics

What you should bring to the table:
Motivation, technical understanding and manual dexterity. Are you interested in metal and enjoy working independently? Great, then this is the right job for you.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
More knowledge is always good. You can not only continue your education through courses or seminars, but also specialise in a particular area. You can become a master craftsman, technician or even a technical business administrator. Do you want more? Then, under certain conditions, you can also obtain a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, for example.

You will plan and construct metal structures, systems and equipment. You will also build doors, windows and halls and process metals such as steel, aluminium, stainless steel, brass and copper. The maintenance of systems, vehicles and other equipment is also part of your training. This requires not only manual dexterity, but also brains, because your construction should not end up as a lump of metal.

A good degree from a general education school.

 

What you should bring to the table:
You should have a good knowledge of mathematics and physics as well as technical skills and enjoy organisational tasks. If you also have good logical and spatial thinking skills, this apprenticeship will suit you very well.

You will be trained in various nautical tasks such as conservation and rigging work. You will also assist with mooring and casting off ships, learn how to handle fire protection and rescue equipment and how to maintain machinery and systems. You will bear responsibility by, for example, taking over the engine room and bridge watch and monitoring loading processes.

 

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school.

 

What you should bring to the table:
Enjoying maths and English are an advantage in this apprenticeship. You must also be at least 16 years old and fit to work at sea (official medical examination). If you are interested in technical topics and contexts and have manual dexterity as well as a high sense of responsibility, the ability to work in a team and an independent way of working, this apprenticeship will suit you very well.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
After your apprenticeship, you have various options. You can go in different directions, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, nautical engineering or marine engineering.
To further advance your career, you could then go on to study in the fields of marine engineering, nautical engineering or shipbuilding/maritime engineering.

Wasserbauer/in (Hydraulic engineer)

Duration of Apprenticeship: 3 years

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
As a hydraulic engineer, you will construct, inspect and maintain structures for island and coastal protection, as well as bank stabilisation and maintenance routes (such as dykes, lahns and groynes) and structures in and on bodies of water (such as draining lock chambers). You will also be responsible for securing fairways and waterways and carry out surveys and hydrological measurements. But that's not all: you will implement flood protection measures as well as flood and ice defences, construct structural elements and learn how to operate floating vehicles and floating equipment.

 

What degree do you need?
Successful completion of secondary level 1 with good grades in maths and science subjects.

 

What you should bring to the table:
An interest in craftsmanship and a good physical condition. As a hydraulic engineer, you will also need a free swimmer's licence and you should have a preference for working outdoors.

 

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
After your apprenticeship, you have various options. You can go in different directions, such as occupational safety, civil engineering, reinforced concrete construction, construction machinery management, surveying technology, building restoration, waste water or environmental and nature conservation. To further advance your career, you could then go on to study civil engineering, international land and water management, land use and water management or geoinformatics and surveying. It would also be possible to attend technician and master craftsman school.

 

This profession is for you if you:

  • love the smell of salt water.
  • enjoy working in a team.
  • enjoy working with (heavy) machinery.

 

This profession is not for you if you:

  • get seasick quickly.
  • don't like being out in the fresh air.
  • are not physically resilient.

What we have on board for you

If you decide in favour of an apprenticeship at NPorts, you can look forward to many things. For example, that every day will be varied and exciting. You will receive hands-on training and will therefore be ideally equipped to start your career independently after your apprenticeship. Your salary will also be impressive. Apprenticeship day

Shortly after the start of your training, which will be well prepared and organised for you at your location, all new trainees meet at the headquarters in Oldenburg and get to know each other and the company.
