RaDaR4.0

Project Info

Motivation

The recording of entries and exits on port railroads is currently mostly carried out manually by our own staff, who in turn rely on customer registration data. Due to the large number of registrations and the respective local conditions, it is rarely possible to verify this data. However, as this data forms the basis for the billing of port railway charges and for further planning, the reliability of the data is essential.

Project Objective

The aim of the RaDaR4.0 project is to create real-life testing opportunities in the field of Logistics 4.0 and traffic management by installing and using commercially available standard camera systems. For this purpose, partial test fields will be set up in the ports of Brake, Cuxhaven, Emden and Wilhelmshaven as well as the JadeWeserPort. The interaction of the various test locations will enable the creation of a digital, cross-port test field.

The data captured by the camera technology is to be refined using OCR/deep learning and made available across locations using open interfaces. In addition to the connection of existing camera systems, the variance of the ports is a special feature of the digital test field. The integration of the entire logistics chain, i.e. the modes of transport ship, train and truck, opens up test areas for innovations for more efficient use of the port infrastructure.

Implementation

The technical implementation of the digital test field is based both on existing camera systems at the individual locations and on the expansion of these with standardized camera technology. For example, security cameras and cameras for track and environment monitoring will be used. As part of the digital test field, the data obtained in the sub-test fields will then be used across all locations to create a higher-level data exchange and control options. The project also offers testing opportunities for third parties through the use and further processing of the collected and refined data for comprehensive and cross-sector data and traffic management.
