The trainee program at NPorts is a very good opportunity to gain your first experience after graduate school and to get your start as a civil engineer. I have the opportunity to be on various construction sites, where I am well looked after and can learn interesting things. Not only did I learn more about the construction work, but I also learned about the various tasks of the Ports of Niedersachsen. By taking on autonomous tasks, I am rapidly growing into my role as construction manager. The trainee program gave me a lot of impressions about the actual workflow of a construction site and the tasks of the construction manager and the construction engineer in general.
Dima Omran, Trainee Civil Engineering 2019-2020
While writing my master's thesis at NPorts in the Emden branch, I was welcomed with open arms from the beginning and supported until the end. I was able to gain a lot of practical experience on-site and to participate in an EU-funded project called NON-STOP. In my master's thesis, I worked extensively on the development of a sensor-based water monitoring system with the aim of improving the digital monitoring of microbiological conditions in the port of Emden. The central element of my work on the topic was a measuring buoy constructed by NPorts. I not only played a key role in the development process, but also in taking the first pilot measurements in the port. In addition, I was offered an exciting platform for presenting the contents of my master's thesis in various meetings, some of which were international. During my time at NPorts, I was not only able to work on an innovative and practice-oriented topic, but also gain diverse insights into the processes in and around the Emden seaport.
